Athenian Black Annie Sloan Chalk Paint®

Athenian Black, a true and deep black Chalk Paint color, was developed to reflect the opaque figures and dramatic silhouetted shapes painted on Ancient Greek ceramics. Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, the original and favorite furniture paint used by thousands of professionals worldwide, is a unique decorative paint for furniture, walls, and paint effects, invented in 1990.

This water-based, high-performance Annie Sloan Chalk Paint comes in a 120-milliliter size and can cover approximately 17 square feet. To use it, ensure the surface is clean and dry, and remove any loose coats of old paint or lacquer. Before opening the can, give it a good shake, then open and stir well. If the paint is too thick, add a little water and stir. Always test a patch before starting your project. Apply with an Annie Sloan brush, using one or two coats, and allowing approximately 30 minutes of drying time, depending on the conditions.

To protect and finish the Chalk Paint, it should be sealed with Chalk Paint Wax or Chalk Paint Lacquer. Use a lint-free cloth or Wax Brush to apply the wax, working it into the paint and wiping away any excess before letting it dry.

Chalk Paint adheres to a variety of surfaces, including wood, glass, metal, plastic, and old painted surfaces, without the need for extensive sanding or priming. You can start the fun part right away!

For a vintage, distressed look, apply the paint thickly and sand it back after waxing. For a smooth, contemporary finish, add a little water and apply it thinly. Watered-down Chalk Paint can also be used as a wash for furniture and floors, or to dye fabric. In some cases, on untreated pine and some aged furniture, a yellow or pink stain may come through, but this can be addressed by applying clear shellac to the stain and repainting.

To maintain your Chalk Paint finish, clean with a soft, damp cloth and avoid harsh chemicals or alcohol. Chalk Paint can be used for a variety of paint effects, including two-color distressing, a textured look, and a smooth, modern finish.
